CAIRO – 1 October 2025: Amid the US government shutdown, the US Embassy in Cairo announced Wednesday that its official social media accounts will not be updated regularly, except for urgent safety and security information.

In a statement, the embassy confirmed that scheduled passport and visa services in the United States and at US embassies and consulates abroad will continue during the lapse in appropriations “as the situation permits.”

It added that Cairo embassy will maintain all routine and emergency services for US citizens in Egypt. Meanwhile, the American Center Cairo (ACC) will remain closed until full operations resume.

The announcement came as the US federal government began a shutdown on Wednesday after lawmakers in Washington failed to reach a budget agreement.

The funding lapse has affected several federal agencies, forcing many government operations to scale back or suspend services until Congress approves new appropriations.

The federal government shutdown has curtailed social media activity by US embassies worldwide.

For updates on services and operating status, the embassy directed the public to consult the official website (travel.state.gov).
