CAIRO – 18 September 2025: Spain's King Felipe VI held meetings with Senate Speaker Abdel Wahab Abdel Razek and House of Representatives Speaker Hanafi Gebali during his visit to Cairo on Wednesday.

Both speakers stressed the Egyptian desire to strengthen parliamentary relations with Spain in a way that contributes to strengthening friendship relations and mutual understanding.

During his meeting with the House speaker, King Felipe VI expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt's rich history, commending the strong relations between the two countries.

He said Spain supports the European drive to advance and strengthen relations with Middle Eastern countries, particularly Egypt, given its strategic and pioneering role in supporting regional security and stability.

The king also praised the distinguished relations binding the Spanish and Egyptian parliaments.

Gebali commended Spain's positive stance in support of Arab issues, foremost among them the Palestinian cause.

He expressed appreciation for Spain's support of Khaled El Enany, the Egyptian candidate for UNESCO chief.

Meanwhile, the speaker of the Senate commended Spain's stance in support of the Palestinian cause and its rejection of the Israeli occupation authorities’ brutal attacks on Palestinians in Gaza.

Abdel Razek also lauded Spain's support for the Palestinian people's right to establish their state, as well as Madrid's rejection of Israel's illegal displacement policy in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip and its continued violations of international law.

The Senate speaker also expressed his appreciation for the support shown by Spain for Egypt's issues in international forums.

During the meeting, King Felipe affirmed the strength of historical relations between Egypt and Spain, adding he is looking forward to developing them at the parliamentary, economic, tourist, and cultural levels.

The Spanish king also praised Egypt's mediation efforts to stop the war in Gaza and allow unhindered humanitarian aid to Gazans, highlighting efforts aimed to unify the international community around putting an end to the war.
