CAIRO – 11 September 2025: Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani took part on Thursday in the funeral of the victims of the recent Israeli airstrike in Doha, including Hamas members and a Qatari security officer.

Funeral prayers were held at the Mohammed bin Abdulwahab Mosque in the Qatari capital.

Five Hamas members were killed in the Israeli strike, including the son of Khalil Al-Hayya, Hamas’s leader in Gaza. A member of Qatar’s Internal Security Force was also killed and others were injured, according to the Qatari interior ministry.

Such unprecedented escalation by Israel has raised tensions across the region, drawing sharp condemnation and renewing international scrutiny of the widening scope of the ongoing regional conflict.

Israeli jets launched airstrikes on the political bureau of Hamas on Tuesday, targeting the negotiating delegation led by Hayya.

Hamas said the attack failed to target the delegation.

The attack comes while Qatar and Egypt have intensified their efforts to broker a ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel to end the war in Gaza that has lasted for nearly two years and killed over 64,000 Palestinians.

Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani condemned Israel’s attack on Hamas leadership in Doha as “state terrorism, carried out by “barbaric” Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu.
