CAIRO – 20 August 2025: Egypt-US joint military exercise "Bright Star 2025" has officially commenced, with 44 nations participating: 14 actively involved and 30 serving as observers.
The exercise will run until September 10 at the Mohamed Naguib Military Base in northern Egypt’s Matrouh, and several air and naval bases across Egypt.
Over 8,000 soldiers from 14 countries are taking part, alongside civil police forces and representatives from the International Committee of the Red Cross and NATO.

During the opening ceremony, Shereif El-Araishi, head of the Egyptian Armed Forces' training authority, delivered a speech in which he conveyed greetings from Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of Defense General Abdel Mageed Saqr and Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa to all participating forces.
He emphasized the importance of the "Bright Star" exercise as one of the largest joint military drills in the region, which reflects its significant benefits and strengthens military relations among the participating nations.

Patrick Clair, director of training from the US side, expressed gratitude for Egypt's efforts in hosting this massive exercise.
He highlighted the meticulous planning and preparation that has made the event an excellent opportunity for exchanging military knowledge and experiencing different military cultures.
Following the speeches, commanders from the participating countries toured an exhibition showcasing weapons and military equipment. Military bands also performed as part of the ceremony.

Various participants praised Egypt for its warm hospitality and excellent reception, noting the importance of the training in fostering military cooperation and knowledge sharing.
The event was attended by several senior Egyptian commanders, heads of participating forces, and media representatives.
Egyptian and American paratroopers carried out a show that included a parachute jump over the Great Pyramids of Giza, attended by military leaders and the US ambassador to Egypt.
