CAIRO – 4 August 2025: Egypt’s 2025 Senate election kicked off on Monday and is expected to continue for two days in a row are 4 and 5 August.
Polling stations across opened their doors at 9:00 AM Monday, to receive voters wishing to cast their ballots in the Senate elections.
The elections are being held under the supervision of judicial authority advisors, with monitoring from various civil society organizations and both local and international media outlets.
A total of 424 candidates are competing in the individual seats—183 of them are independents, and 241 are affiliated with political parties. Additionally, there is one electoral list titled “The National List for Egypt,” which includes 200 candidates and covers the four electoral districts designated for the list-based system.
According to the voter database, approximately 69 million citizens are eligible to vote in this election, which is being fully managed and supervised by the National Elections Authority. A total of 9,250 members of the State Lawsuits Authority and the Administrative Prosecution Authority are chairing 8,825 subcommittees across 8,286 polling centers, assisted by around 65,000 staff members working in subcommittees, general committees, and preservation and monitoring committees.

4:00 PM: Voting resumed on the 1 day of the 2025 Senate elections after a one-hour break. Voting is scheduled to continue at polling stations until 9:00 PM.
3: 45 PM: Despite pausing the voting process temporarily for an hour rest, voters continue to flock and gather in front of the polling stations to cast their ballots.
3: 20 PM: Voters cooperated to overcome the extreme heat by distributing water bottles to each other while waiting in line at polling stations. Also, as part of the measures taken to facilitate the voting process, seats were provided for the elderly along with wheelchairs and water bottles.

12: 58 PM: Senate Speaker Counselor Abdel Wahab Abdel Razek, cast his vote in the 2025 Senate Elections, at his polling station at the Martyr Ahmed Abdel Wahab School in Maadi.

12:09 PM: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hanafi El-Gebali, casts his vote in the Senate elections and calls on Egyptian citizens to participate and exercise their constitutional right.
12:01 PM: Egyptian voters were seen celebrating the Senate elections with music and dance around the polling stations in the Manshiyat al-Qanater district. Voters who flocked since 9 AM to cast their ballots were raising Egyptian flags.

11: 50 AM: Counselor Mohamed El-Shenawy, head of the Administrative Prosecution Authority, cast his vote on the 1st day of the Senate election at the 15th of May Language School in 15th of May City.
Counselor Shenawy inspected a number of polling stations to ensure the electoral process was going smoothly. He praised the progress of the electoral process and the high turnout at the polling stations.

10: 54 AM: Egypt’s Minister of Housing Sherif El-Sherbiny, cast his vote in the Senate elections at the Fatma Annan polling station in the Fifth Settlement, New Cairo, praising the excellent organization of the electoral process.
10: 50 AM: Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy cast his vote in the 2025 Senate elections at his polling station at Siza Nabrawy School in New Cairo.
