Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty met with Malian President Assimi Goita on Thursday, July 24
CAIRO – 24 July 2025: Acting on the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty met with Malian President Assimi Goita on Thursday, July 24, delivering a written message from President Sisi that addressed ways to enhance and deepen bilateral relations between Egypt and Mali.
Minister Abdelatty conveyed President El-Sisi’s greetings to President Goita, emphasizing that his visit reflects the deep historical and fraternal ties between the two nations. He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to providing all forms of technical, logistical, and institutional support to Mali in its efforts to achieve security and stability, highlighting Mali’s pivotal role in its regional context.
The Minister underscored the recent positive momentum in Egyptian-Malian relations and stressed the importance of building upon high-level exchanges and their outcomes. These developments have paved the way for increased cooperation in key sectors such as education, health, capacity building, and the fight against extremist ideology.
Minister Abdelatty was accompanied by a high-level delegation of 30 business leaders and representatives from major Egyptian public and private sector companies, participating in the Egyptian-Malian Business Forum. This underscores Egypt’s interest in advancing economic, trade, and investment ties with Mali, particularly in infrastructure, healthcare, construction, energy, and mining.
The meeting also reviewed Egypt’s ongoing capacity-building initiatives. The Minister noted that more than 100 Malian officials and professionals have benefited this year from training courses offered by the Egyptian government. These efforts included specialized workshops and programs, notably a course held in Bamako by the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) on post-conflict reconstruction and development, which was inaugurated by Mali’s Foreign Minister with broad participation from government entities.
Cooperation in countering extremist ideology was another key point of discussion. The two sides highlighted the central role of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, which has been active through its envoys in Malian educational and religious institutions, training imams and preachers to promote moderate discourse.
The two officials also exchanged views on critical regional issues, particularly developments in the Sahel and Sahara, stressing the need to strengthen joint African action to address shared security and development challenges. Both sides agreed on the importance of continued coordination and consultation on regional matters of mutual interest.
For his part, President Assimi Goita asked Minister Abdelatty to convey his greetings and appreciation to President El-Sisi. He expressed Mali’s deep gratitude for Egypt’s leading role in supporting the African continent and reaffirmed his country’s keenness to strengthen its partnership with Egypt across all fields. He also commended Egypt’s steadfast support for Mali’s journey toward stability and development.
