CAIRO – 23 July 2025: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Egyptian Abroad Badr Abdelatty and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Niger Bakary Yaou Sangare affirmed the deep, historical ties between the two countries.
They expressed their satisfaction with the current level of coordination and their shared aspiration to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, agriculture, energy and electricity, health, education, training, and capacity building.
This came during a meeting held on Wednesday between the two ministers in Niamey, the capital of Niger, which marks the third stop in Abdelatty’s tour of West Africa.
The two ministers emphasized the importance of building on the outcomes of the Nigerien foreign minister’s visit to Cairo in October 2024, which was a significant milestone in the path of bilateral relations.
Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s commitment to strengthening economic cooperation with Niger, noting that his visit was in implementation of the directives of the Egyptian president to elevate bilateral relations, particularly through the development of economic and developmental partnerships.
The talks included a discussion on regional security challenges, particularly the spread of terrorism and organized crime.
Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s pioneering experience in combating terrorism through a comprehensive approach that takes into account security, development, and cultural dimensions.
He affirmed Egypt’s readiness to share its accumulated expertise with Niger and Sahel countries.
The talks also addressed several priority issues, foremost among them the situation in the Sahel and West Africa, and the need to enhance joint African action to confront security and developmental challenges.
Both sides stressed the importance of ongoing consultation and coordination on regional developments of mutual concern and the necessity of strengthening African cooperation.
For his part, Sangare expressed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s continued support and praised Egypt’s active role in advancing the interests of the African continent.
He affirmed his eagerness to deepen cooperation with Egypt across all fields in a manner that serves the interests of both nations.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to establish a political consultation mechanism between the two foreign ministries.
This agreement aims to enhance institutional coordination and expand bilateral relations, further advancing cooperation between Cairo and Niamey.
