CAIRO - 7 July 2025: In an unprecedented achievement, Egypt's table potato exports have exceeded 1.3 million tons since the beginning of the season, confirming the growing global standing of Egyptian agricultural products.

This success coincides with the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation's relentless efforts to combat the brown rot pest in potatoes, ensuring crop quality and competitiveness.

Dr. Naglaa Balabel, Director of the Potato Brown Rot Control Project, confirmed the ongoing close monitoring of harvests and disease-free areas across all governorates. Project engineers in the free areas continue their tireless work to monitor potato harvests and record harvested quantities. They also carefully review harvested quantities for each company and compare them with the inspected quantities to ensure that the inspected quantities do not exceed the harvested quantities, reflecting a strict commitment to transparency and quality.

In a notable development, Balabel revealed the pivotal role of the project's monitoring and follow-up unit. Through this, data from questionnaires submitted by field engineers via tablets is reviewed and fed into a central platform for data preparation and reception. This process enables the issuance of accurate reports and indicators on the engineers' performance in the vacant areas.

The project's efforts are not limited to field monitoring, but extend to maintenance work, the establishment of new areas, and advanced analyses using remote sensing technology. These analyses include measuring soil salinity, chlorophyll levels, and water content of the vegetation, providing vital data to support sustainable agriculture.
