CAIRO – 5 July 2025: Egypt is intensifying its communications and efforts in the coming hours to reach a “final formula” for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza that is acceptable to all parties, sources told Al Qahera News on Friday.

Hamas responded to the proposal for a ceasefire delivered by the mediators earlier this week, said the sources, noting that the movement’s response includes a willingness to engage in indirect negotiations aimed at implementing the truce, effective upon approval.

In light of this development, Egypt is intensifying its communications and efforts with all parties involved to resume indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel, the sources said.

They added that Egypt and Qatar are continuing their efforts to secure a agreement to end the war in the enclave.

‘Positive Response’

Hamas said in a Telegram post on Friday that they completed consultations with Palestinian factions regarding the recent proposal from mediators, noting that they have submitted “a positive response” to end the Israeli aggression against people in Gaza.

“The movement has submitted a positive response to the mediators and is fully prepared to enter negotiations immediately on the mechanism for implementing this framework,” Hamas said.

US President Donald Trump said earlier this week said he hopes Hamas accepts the proposal “because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE,” asserting that Israel has agreed to the “necessary conditions” to reach the deal.

During the period of the proposed ceasefire, Trump said the US will “work with all parties to end the War.”

Hamas issued a brief statement earlier on Friday, highlighting its commitment to ending the Israeli aggression against Palestinians and ensuring the free entry of humanitarian aid.

Talks about a possible ceasefire comes while Israeli forces continue to kill dozens of Palestinian civilians every day across Gaza amid absence of accountability.

According to Gaza’s health ministry, Israeli forces have so far killed more than 57,000, most of whom are women and children.

The deaths include nearly 600 humanitarian aid seekers near the distribution centers of the so-called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), an American newly-established organization backed by Israel and which Hamas has called “death traps.”

Israeli forces resumed bombardment on Gaza on March 18, shattering a two-month ceasefire that was brokered by Egypt, Qatar and the US and had resulted in the release of 38 captives from Gaza, 30 of whom were alive.
