CAIRO – 4 July 2025: Tomorrow, Saturday, marks the first day for submitting nomination applications for individuals wishing to run in the Senate elections.

The application period will continue until Thursday, July 10. Committees responsible for receiving applications will operate daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Cairo Time), except on the final day, when applications will be accepted from 5:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has ratified amendments to the Senate Law and the law governing the division of its constituencies.

The Senate will comprise 300 members: two-thirds will be elected by direct and secret voting, while the remaining one-third will be appointed by the President. A minimum of 10% of the total seats will be allocated to women.

Egypt is divided into 27 constituencies for individual-member elections and four constituencies for list-based elections. Two of the list constituencies will each be allocated 13 seats, while the remaining two will each be allocated 37 seats.

Approximately 68 million citizens are eligible to vote in the Senate elections, due to convene on August 4 and 5, 2025, announced the National Elections Authority (NEA) on Thursday.

The NEA announced the official closure of the voter database for the upcoming Senate elections. As of July 1, no changes can be made to the voter roll, except in two specific cases; the implementation of a final court ruling to add or remove a person, or the removal of deceased individuals’ names.

The NEA confirmed that approximately 68 million citizens are eligible to vote in the elections—an increase of about one million voters compared to the last presidential election, when the voter base exceeded 67 million.

On July 1, 2025, the National Elections Authority urged all eligible Egyptian citizens—both at home and abroad—to participate actively in the Senate elections. The authority reiterated its commitment to ensuring a transparent, inclusive, and lawful electoral process.
