CAIRO – 2 July 2025: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sweilam said Egypt endeavors to achieve development in Nile Basin countries.

They highlighted the encouragement of the Egyptian private sector to invest in Nile Basin countries and to capitalize on the presence of several companies already operating in them to implement development projects, including dam projects in the southern Nile Basin countries, as long as they are consistent with international law.

They urged the need to benefit from the new Egyptian mechanism for financing projects in Nile Basin countries.

This came during a meeting between both ministers Wednesday, as part of a series of meetings with ambassadors transferred to work at Egyptian embassies and missions abroad.

The foreign minister expressed his appreciation for the existing cooperation between his ministry and the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, given the overlapping and intersecting areas of expertise the two sides share, particularly with regard to water issues closely related to Egyptian national security.

He also highlighted cooperation with international partners in addressing water scarcity, enhancing and building capacity, and transferring modern technology.

For his part, the water resources and irrigation minister reviewed his ministry's efforts in areas related to water resources and their uses, addressing the challenges associated with climate change, and implementing best practices regarding irrigation, water resource development, and conservation.

He highlighted the policies adopted for addressing water scarcity, which focuses on digital transformation, developing the second generation of irrigation systems, smart management, seawater desalination, and wastewater treatment.
