CAIRO - 2 July 2025: Spokesperson for the Ministry of Petroleum Engineer Moataz Atef, confirmed that an emergency plan was activated immediately after receiving a report of a barge capsizing in the Jabal al-Zeit area of the Gulf of Suez.
The Ministers of Petroleum and Labor moved to the site, and all necessary resources were deployed to deal with the incident.
Moataz Atef added during an interview with Extra News Channel that they are still monitoring the incident and are coordinating with the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Health to determine the number of deaths and injuries, which will be announced.
Moataz Atef explained that the barge is offshore and mobile, and that we have the capabilities to deal with this incident. "We previously conducted mock drills for such incidents, which were prepared in advance, as well as surprise mock drills."
Moataz Atef noted that a joint statement will be issued with the Ministry of Health after verifying the number of injuries and deaths, to ensure accurate figures.
