CAIRO – 24 June 2025: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed regret to the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and to the brotherly Qatari people for the damages caused by the attack that targeted Al-Udeid Air Base.

In a Tuesday phone call, Pezeshkian noted that the State of Qatar and its people were not the intended targets of this operation, and that the attack does not constitute a threat, according to Qatari news agency (QNA).

He affirmed that Qatar remains a neighboring, Muslim, and sisterly country and said that he hopes for bilateral relations to always be based on the principles of respect for national sovereignty and good neighborliness.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani reaffirmed Qatar’s strong condemnation of the attack by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, deeming it a blatant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace, as well as a breach of international law and the United Nations Charter.

Emir of Qatar also said that this violation is completely inconsistent with the principles of good neighborliness and the close relations between the two countries, especially that Qatar has always advocated for dialogue with Iran and has made significant diplomatic efforts in this regard.

The Emir stressed the urgent need to immediately halt military operations and to seriously return to the negotiation table and to dialogue in order to overcome this crisis and safeguard the region's security and its peoples' safety.

On Monday, Iranian Armed Forces announced that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar with a devastating and powerful missile attack as part of Operation “Basharat al-Fatah” [the Herald of the Victory], in retaliation to the US attacks on three Iranian uranium enrichment facilities on Sunday.

In a statement, the Iranian IRGC said that its forces bombed the US Al Udeid base in Qatar, the largest strategic asset of the US military in the West Asia region.

According to The New York Times, Iran informed Qatar in advance of the attacks in order to minimize casualties

However, the Qatari Ministry of Defense announced that Qatari air defenses successfully intercepted a missile attack targeting Al-Udeid Air Base, noting that the incident did not result in any deaths or injuries.

Spokesman of Qatari Foreign Ministry Majed Al Ansary stated that Qatar strongly condemned the attack as considered it a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the State of Qatar, its airspace, international law, and the United Nations Charter.
