CAIRO – 25 May 2025: A heatwave has been affecting Egypt since Saturday, bringing daytime temperatures in Cairo and along the North Coast to just below 40 degrees Celsius.
Fortunately, this heat spell is expected to be short-lived, fading out by Tuesday across all areas.
In southern Upper Egypt, home to the picturesque cities of Luxor and Aswan, highs are around 43°C, with lows of 27-28°C, according to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA).
Meanwhile, Sharm El-Sheikh is experiencing highs of 38°C and lows of 26°C.
Alongside the heat, the EMA forecasts windy conditions in South Sinai, the Red Sea governorate, and southern Upper Egypt until Monday.
Dusty winds may also impact open areas in western Egypt and northern Upper Egypt.
Dramatic Drop Ahead
The heatwave is anticipated to end abruptly, with a significant 8-9°C drop in temperatures expected in Cairo and northern Upper Egypt starting midweek.
On Tuesday, temperatures in Cairo will fall from a scorching 39°C to a more comfortable 31°C.
The North Coast is also expected to see a drop to 25-26°C from 39°C beginning Monday.
Daytime temperatures in Luxor and Aswan will fall from around 43°C to 36-38°C by the end of the week.
If you’re planning a vacation, the North Coast remains an excellent choice, where you can enjoy the beautiful Alexandria and Matrouh. Consider avoiding the heat this weekend and starting your vacation on Monday to take advantage of the pleasant weather.
