CAIRO – 24 May 2025: The Israeli army has announced the deployment of all its standing infantry and armored brigades to the Gaza Strip, according to the Times of Israel, a week after the launch of a new operation aimed at seizing control of the entire enclave.
The Israeli army previously reported that five divisions are actively operating in Gaza, comprising tens of thousands of troops.
The war in Gaza has so far killed more than 53,900 people, according to the ministry, including 3,747 since the Israeli forces resumed the operations on 18 March, shattering a ceasefire that brought home dozens of captives held by Hamas in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.
Despite global condemnation and pressure from some of Israel's closest Western allies to cease military operations and resume aid deliveries, the Israeli government has vowed to continue its campaign in Gaza until Hamas is defeated and the remaining captives are safely returned.
Israel is pressuring Hamas to agree to a temporary ceasefire for the release of captives and the entry of humanitarian aid.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Wednesday that Israel will not end the war until Hamas disarms, relinquishes power, and exiles its leaders from Gaza.
Finally, he vowed to implement US President Donald Trump’s plan to permanently displace Gaza residents from their lands.
Hamas has indicated a willingness to release all captives in exchange for a permanent end to the war, a demand that Israel has rejected. Meanwhile, the group has rejected demands for disarmament as a red line, pledging to keep their weapons as long as the Israeli occupation persists.
