CAIRO – 23 May 2025: Egypt is expecting a scorching heatwave, with temperatures in Cairo and along the North Coast reaching close to 40 degrees Celsius by Sunday. In Upper Egypt, home to the scenic cities of Luxor and Aswan, temperatures could soar to 42-43°C.
Alongside the heat, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) forecasts windy conditions in Cairo, the North Coast, and southern Egypt from Saturday to Monday.
Dusty winds may affect open areas in South Sinai and the Red Sea governorate.
In the sea, winds could reach speeds of 40-60 km/h, causing waves to rise to 2-3 meters, which may pose challenges for navigation.
The Good News!
The heatwave is expected to be short-lived, with a significant 8-9°C drop in temperatures anticipated in Cairo and northern Upper Egypt starting midweek.
On Tuesday, Cairo's temperatures will fall from a scorching 39°C to a more comfortable 30-32°C by the weekend.
The North Coast also is expected to see a drop to 25°C from 39°C beginning Monday.
So, if you're planning a vacation, the North Coast remains an excellent choice, where you can always enjoy the beautiful Alexandria and Matrouh. Consider avoiding the heat tomorrow and Sunday, and start your vacation on Monday to take advantage of the pleasant weather.
