CAIRO – 22 May 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer. Their call addressed bilateral ties and the latest developments in the besieged Gaza Strip in light of the Israeli war on the Palestinians in the enclave.

The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, stated that the call addressed ways to enhance relations between the two countries. The call reviewed economic, trade, and investment relations. Both sides reaffirmed their interest in developing bilateral ties and exploring new prospects for cooperation across other sectors. They emphasized that both countries are keen to maintain ongoing political consultation and coordination to serve mutual interests.

The call focused on regional developments. The UK prime minister listened to President El-Sisi’s views on the situation in the Gaza Strip and Egypt’s efforts, in cooperation with Qatar and the United States, to reach a ceasefire and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid. Egypt's categorical rejection of any attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause or displace Palestinians from their land was emphasized, noting the importance of turning the current international support for the Arab-Islamic plan to reconstruct Gaza into practical steps to be implemented once a ceasefire is reached.

President El-Sisi expressed his appreciation for the UK’s positive stance on the Palestinian issue and developments in Gaza.

President El-Sisi and Prime Minister Starmer agreed to continue coordination between the two countries regarding regional and international developments.
