CAIRO – 19 May 2025: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Monday, to discuss strengthening relations between the two brotherly countries and consult on ways to restore regional stability.
President Sisi welcomed his Lebanese counterpart and his accompanying delegation and emphasized that this visit embodies the strength of the historical relations between the two countries, as Egypt and Lebanon have set a true model of brotherhood.
He noted that relations between Egypt and Lebanon are historic and have always aimed at development and civilization. He added that Egypt was among the first countries to recognize Lebanon's independence and establish diplomatic relations with it in the 1940s.
In his speech at a joint press conference with his Lebanese counterpart following their talks at Al-Ittihadiya Palace, President Sisi emphasized that their discussions were a valuable opportunity to exchange views on strengthening relations in the commercial and economic fields.
President Sisi stated that during the talks, he emphasized Egypt's steadfast position in supporting Lebanon and its categorical rejection of Israel's repeated violations and occupation of Lebanese territory.
President Sisi emphasized the need to push for Israel's immediate withdrawal from all Lebanese territories.
In his speech, President Sisi reiterated his call for the international community to hold its responsibilities toward Lebanon's reconstruction. He urged international organizations and donors to actively participate in this process to ensure Lebanon's return toward peace and coexistence in the region.
The President noted that his discussions with his Lebanese counterpart addressed developments in the Gaza Strip.
“We emphasized the need to immediately end the aggression on the Strip, resume the ceasefire agreement, and release all hostages and prisoners, while ensuring the urgent entry of humanitarian aid,” President Sisi said.
Both leaders also reaffirmed Egypt and Lebanon's firm and supportive stance toward the Palestinian cause, rejecting any attempts to displace Palestinians or undermine their just cause.
The two presidents called on the international community to mobilize international efforts and resources to implement the Gaza reconstruction plan without displacing its people, enable the Palestinian Authority to return to the Gaza Strip, and work to expand international recognition of the Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Sisi and Aoun also discussed pressing regional issues, most notably the situation in Syria.
Both leaders reiterated their full support for the Syrian people and emphasized the need for the political process during the transitional period to be inclusive and non-exclusionary, while continuing counterterrorism efforts and rejecting any manifestations of sectarianism or division.
They also emphasized their condemnation of the repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian sovereignty, the necessity of Israel's withdrawal from the occupied Syrian territories, and respect for Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun arrived in Cairo on Monday for a one-day visit per an invitation from Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al Sisi.
Following the welcoming ceremony, President Aoun, accompanied by Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, Lebanon's Ambassador to Cairo Ali Halabi along with the guard of honor, headed to the presidential lounge at the airport.
Aoun and his accompanying delegation then proceeded to Al-Ittihadiya Palace for official talks with President Sisi.
