CAIRO – 1 May 2025: Three people were killed, 13 others were injured and several vehicles were destroyed in a gas pipeline fire in the 6th of October City in northern Egypt’s Giza on Wednesday.

Eight of the injured were transported to Sheikh Zayed Specialized Hospital, while five were taken to the 6th of October City Central Hospital, where all affected individuals are receiving necessary medical care, the Ministry of Health reported.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources stated in a press release that the ruptured natural gas pipeline on El Wahat Road was operating at a pressure of 7 bar.

The ministry noted that the incident occurred when a construction company conducted drilling work without prior coordination with the natural gas company NATGAS, leading to several fatalities, injuries and property damage.

Reports on Thursday indicated that a loader driver was arrested to determine his involvement in the pipeline rupture.

The Ministry of Petroleum reported that emergency teams swiftly responded, managing to isolate the gas network in the affected area and fully control the fire with the assistance of civil defense forces.

The natural gas service is currently operating normally for customers, and repair work is underway at the incident site, the ministry added.

This statement came shortly after Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly ordered the formation of a technical committee to investigate the causes of the incident.

Additionally, the prime minister instructed for appropriate compensation to be swiftly provided to the victims or their families, extending his heartfelt condolences and sympathy to them.

He also emphasized the immediate need to attend to the injured, while ensuring the removal of the incident's aftermath and taking all necessary measures to control the situation in the area and surrounding neighborhoods.

Right after the incident, the Ministry of Health announced dispatching 12 fully equipped ambulances to the scene to provide urgent medical support.
