Cairo Summit Calls for Immediate Gaza Ceasefire

Cairo Summit Calls for Immediate Gaza Ceasefire

CAIRO – 7 April 2025: Leaders from Egypt, France, and Jordan held a tripartite summit in Cairo on Monday regarding the critical situation in Gaza.

A statement issued by the summit called for an immediate return to a ceasefire, to protect Palestinians and ensure they receive urgent humanitarian aid promptly and fully.

The leaders called for the implementation of the ceasefire agreement signed on January 19, which stipulated ensuring the release of all hostages and detainees, and ensuring the safety of all. They emphasized that protecting civilians and humanitarian aid workers, and ensuring full access for aid delivery, are obligations that must be implemented under international law and international humanitarian law.

The three leaders expressed deep concern about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and called for a halt to all unilateral actions that undermine the possibility of achieving a two-state solution and exacerbate tensions. They also stressed the need to respect the historical status quo of holy sites in Jerusalem.

The leaders expressed their rejection of the displacement of Palestinians from their land and any attempt to annex Palestinian territories.

In this regard, the leaders called for international support for the Gaza reconstruction plan adopted by the Arab Summit held in Cairo on March 4, and adopted by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on March 7, and discussed mechanisms for its effective implementation in terms of security and governance.
