On 1st day of Eid al-Fitr, thousands of Egyptians protest against displacement of Palestinians

CAIRO – 31 March 2025: After performing the prayer of Eid al-Fitr (the Feast of Breaking the Fast) on Monday, hundreds of thousands of the Egyptians gathered outside major mosques and worship places to protest against the US/Israeli scheme aiming at displacing the Palestinians out of their lands.

 

The demonstrations, held in solidarity with the Palestinian cause, took place across various governorates, including Cairo, Giza, Sharqia, Daqahlia in the Delta, as well as Upper Egypt’s Minya and Qena, in addition to North and South Sinai and the Red Sea governorates.

 

Protesters held signs with slogans such as “No to Displacement,” along with Egyptian and Palestinian flags.

The crowds also chanted slogans like “No to Displacement… Gaza is Arab land… We stand behind you, in millions,” and “No to the liquidation of the Palestinian cause.”

 

Egyptians celebrated the first day of Eid al-Fitr, Monday, after Dar al-Ifta announced that the Shawwal crescent moon could not be sighted on March 29.

 

Since March 18, the Israeli forces resumed its war on the besieged Gaza Strip after violating the January 19 ceasfire agreement between Hamas and Gaza. The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced on Saturday that the death toll and injuries since March 18, 2025 has reached, 921 martyrs and 2,054 wounded, respectively. Meanwhile, the death toll from the Israeli aggression has risen to 50,277 martyrs and 114,095 -including women and children- wounded since the beginning of the aggression on Gaza on October 7, 2023.

The renewed Israeli assaults interrupted ongoing talks between Hamas and Israel, facilitated by the mediators, aimed at achieving permanent calm across the war-battered enclave.

Hamas chief Khalil Al-Hayya announced that the movement has agreed to a new ceasefire proposal for Gaza recently presented by mediators amid ongoing Israeli bombardment.

In television remarks, Hayya expressed hope that Israel would not obstruct the proposal.
