Egyptian FM, EU Special Representative discuss crises in Horn of Africa

CAIRO – 12 March 2025: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty received Tuesday EU Special Representative for the Horn of Africa Annette Weber expressing eagerness for peaceful solutions and settlement of regional conflicts through dialogue and cooperation.

 

The Egyptian minister stressed the importance of concerting international and regional efforts to address the security challenges facing the region, primarily terrorism and extremism. In that framework, he gave an overview of the mediation efforts made by Egypt to maintain stability in the Horn of Africa.

 

Regarding Sudan, Minister Abdelatty commended Weber's recent visit to Port Sudan, and listened to her assessment of the circumstances in the war-torn country. He equally noted the necessity of preserving Sudan's unity, territorial integrity and state institutions, and Egypt's support to regional and international endeavors aimed at accomplishing a comprehensive political solution, ceasefire and supply of humanitarian aid.

 

The Egyptian minister and the EU representative also discussed internal disputes in Somalia, as well as security threats in the Red Sea.
