Iftar table in Egypt during the holy month of Ramadan - file
CAIRO - 4 March 2025: Here in the courtyard of Al-Fath Mosque in the center of Zagazig city, in the eastern part of the Nile delta, the "Tekia" is set up; the largest table for breaking the fast throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
After the daily Asr prayer, the volunteers begin preparing the table, where the tables and chairs are arranged, then the volunteers prepare the food in large pots.
One of the volunteers, Ahmed Abdel-Azim, explained that the work does not only provide food, but also takes care to ensure that the dishes and food are presented in the best possible way, explaining that he has been participating for years within a volunteer team, noting that his participation makes him feel that he is doing the best work throughout the holy month.
He pointed out that the kitchen began several years ago to rely on preparing outlets in homes, then it started to a group table. In addition: "We chose this location because it is a vital place in the city, it is close to hospitals and government agencies where many expatriates are located, which makes it an ideal location to serve the largest number of people.
Girls and women also participate as a prominent part in the success of the table. One of the volunteers says that she is participating in the third party, and feels extremely happy to contribute to this charitable work, whether in the kitchen or in distributing seats to the fasting people, noting that she does not feel the hardship of fasting or thirst while volunteering, on the contrary, she has an active spirit and high morale.
Ahmed, a university student, adds that the most prominent feature of the table is that it provides service to our expatriate families and humanitarian cases, as the area is vital, surrounded by a number of hospitals and service agencies, where many expatriates are present.
