CAIRO – 27 February 2025: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Thursday.

The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, stated that the President and the Italian Prime Minister emphasized the momentum bilateral relations have gained, particularly in the fields of economy, investment, trade, and energy, to match the aspirations of the two friendly peoples.

The call also reviewed the importance of intensifying bilateral cooperation to combat illegal immigration.

The Italian prime minister commended Egypt's efforts in this regard, which resulted in no boats carrying illegal immigrants departing from Egyptian coasts since 2016. She pointed out that these efforts are highly appreciated by the European countries.

The President and the Italian prime minister exchanged views on regional developments. The Italian prime minister was keen to listen to President Sisi's views on Egypt’s efforts to implement the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, the exchange of hostages and detainees, as well as ensuring the delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid to the people of the Gaza Strip to alleviate the humanitarian crisis they are facing.

In this context, the two sides affirmed the significance of the prompt initiation of the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip without displacing Palestinians from their land or liquidating the Palestinian cause.

They also emphasized the importance of the international community to fulfill its responsibilities to protect the Palestinian people and support their efforts to establish an independent state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
