CAIRO – 26 February 2025: Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsi chaired Tuesday a meeting of the Supreme Committee on Foster Families to make decisions on applications and petitions, and took part in interviews with applicants to learn more about their incentives to take the adoption move and what they can do to ensure a decent life for the children they will adopt.
A statement released by the ministry indicated that the number of children living with foster families had recorded 12,323 by January 2025. As for that of foster of families, it is 12,094. That is down from the 12,347 and 12,159, respectively, recorded in August.
The Ministry of Social Solidarity announced in November completing the delivery of training to 50 facilitators who would in turn deliver training to foster families across 14 governorates, as it is a pre-requisite for the approval of child adoption.
Those are mainly working with the NGOs of Orman, Yalla Kafala, and Ehtedan. It is noted that the ministry had established the country's first adoption center in Cairo's 15th of May City.
The topics covered in the training are the purpose of adoption, negative impact of physical and psychological punishment; healthy upbringing; child protection; and, entities that can provide support during the journey.
