CAIRO - 25 February 2025: Law No. 25 of 2023 promulgating the Law on Reorganizing the General Authority for Meteorology has imposed severe penalties for practicing any activity in the field of meteorological services without a license, in order to prevent rumors.
Article (13) stipulates:
Without prejudice to any more severe penalty stipulated in the Penal Code or any other law, and taking into account the provisions of Article (11) of this law, anyone who commits any of the following acts shall be punished with a fine of not less than fifty thousand pounds and not more than five million pounds:
1- Providing meteorological services of various types other than through the Authority or without obtaining a license from it.
2- Establishing or operating meteorological stations of any type or weather or marine forecast centers without obtaining a license to do so from the Authority.
3- Publishing any incorrect information related to meteorology or weather conditions on social media, or by any means of publication.
4- Issuing any data, information, bulletins or studies related to meteorology and attributing them to the Authority in a false manner.
5- Purchasing meteorological devices or stations or stations specialized in measuring solar radiation, ozone or agricultural atmosphere, without the approval of the Authority or in violation of the technical specifications approved by it.
In all cases, the court shall rule to confiscate the devices, equipment and tools used in committing the crime for the benefit of the Authority.
