Egypt’s PM travels to Baghdad to co-chair third Egyptian-Iraqi Joint Higher Committee

CAIRO – 30 January 2025: Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly departed from Cairo International Airport this morning en route to Baghdad.

He will co-chair the third session of the Egyptian-Iraqi Joint Higher Committee alongside his Iraqi counterpart, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, and is accompanied by several ministers and officials.

The visit's agenda includes an expanded discussion session where the two prime ministers will address various topics and issues of mutual interest between the two nations.

Additionally, an economic forum will be held during the visit, bringing together a significant number of businessmen from both countries to explore opportunities for joint cooperation in investment and trade.

Earlier this week, the expert meetings for the Egyptian-Iraqi Joint Higher Committee were launched in the Iraqi capital, chaired by Rania Al-Mashat, Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, and Atheer Al-Ghareeri, Iraq’s Minister of Trade.

Al-Mashat underscored that the Egyptian-Iraqi Joint Higher Committee serves as a crucial mechanism for fostering cooperation and partnership between the two nations.

This initiative aims to enhance various aspects of collaboration and address development priorities and needs, guided by the directives of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, who is committed to strengthening Egyptian-Iraqi relations, she added.

The minister emphasized that this commitment extends not only to bilateral ties but also to the tripartite partnership with Jordan, which facilitated the inaugural session of the committee in 2020.

Experts from both countries will engage in discussions regarding several proposed memoranda of understanding to be signed during the committee meetings.

These agreements will cover a range of developmental fields, including antiquities, museums, telecommunications, and silo construction.

Additionally, there will be an emphasis on exchanging expertise in sectors such as education, health, agriculture, water resources, and private sector development.
