CAIRO – 22 January 2025: Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty has arrived in Serbia to meet with senior officials of the European country.
During the visit, Abdelatty will discuss ways to enhance Egyptian-Serbian relations and consult on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Abdelatty has embarked on a European tour this week, which included visits to Brussels of Belgium and Strasbourg in France.
In Brussels, Abdelatty held meetings with Belgium’s Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, Foreign Minister Bernard Quintin, President of the European Council Antonio Costa, and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.
He also met with senior officials from Belgian companies.
Abdelatty’s discussions in Brussels focused on enhancing economic, commercial, and investment relations between Egypt and Belgium, as well as several regional issues, including Syria.
Notably, Abdelatty discussed with the senior officials the Palestinian cause, the two-state solution, and the recently implemented ceasefire in Gaza.
The foreign minister commended Belgium’s support for Egyptian interests within the EU, including the European financial package provided to Egypt.
He also emphasized the importance Egypt places on restoring antiquities that were illegally taken from the country.
In Strasbourg, Abdelatty held meetings with senior officials, including European Parliament President Roberta Metsola and various members of the European Parliament.
During these discussions, he addressed political and security challenges in the Middle East, the ceasefire in Gaza, and developments in Syria, Sudan, the Red Sea, and the Horn of Africa.
They also explored cooperation between Egypt and the EU in various fields, including trade, investment, immigration, and counterterrorism.
