Abdelatty tells Déby Egyptian companies can assist in building dams in Chad

CAIRO – 27 December 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty emphasized that Egyptian companies can assist Chad in building dams and drilling wells to collect rainwater for later use in remote desert areas.

Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting with President Mahamat Idriss Déby in N'Djamena, where he delivered a message from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi highlighting the strong historical ties between the two countries.

The message underscored Egypt’s commitment to enhancing bilateral relations with Chad across various fields.

During the meeting, Abdelatty commended the significant capabilities and experience of Egyptian companies in Africa, which enable them to undertake major projects in vital sectors, including infrastructure, energy, health, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals, all aimed at supporting the Chadian economy.

He also praised the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Egypt and Chad to implement their road connection project, emphasizing the importance of executing this initiative as soon as possible.

This initiative is expected to serve as a vital artery for development between Egypt and Chad, transforming Chad into an important trade hub connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Gulf of Guinea.

 

Déby conveyed his greetings to Sisi, expressing appreciation for the relations between Egypt and Chad, as well as Egypt's active role on the African continent in promoting security and stability.

The Chadian president welcomed the Egyptian business delegation and representatives of major Egyptian companies accompanying Abdelatty, stressing the importance of strengthening economic cooperation to achieve mutual interests.

The meeting comes as part of Abdelatty’s visit to the Chadian capital, aimed at bolstering cooperation between the two countries and discussing regional developments.

During his visit, Abdelatty held political talks with Abderaman Koulamallah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration, Chadians Abroad and International Cooperation.

Abdelatty, during the meeting, called for boosting trade exchange between the two countries and exploring available opportunities to increase their investments.

Abdelatty also held a meeting with Aziz Mahamat Saleh, Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, and made a visit to the Alexandria University branch in N'Djamena.
