CAIRO – 27 December 2024: Egypt and Chad have agreed to establish a land road connection between both countries, which is a huge, ambitious project and a major corridor for development, said Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty in media comments to Al-Qahera News Channel on Friday.
The Foreign Minister added: "This project will connect the Egyptian port of Safaga on the Red Sea to the town of Umm Jaras in northern Chad, passing through Libyan territory.”
He added that both sides are on executing this project, noting that the Egyptian state-owned Arab Contractors Company will take on the majority of the implementation, in partnership with other companies.
He confirmed that the implementation of this project would represent an unprecedented qualitative leap in the history of relations between Egypt and Chad, emphasizing that it is a development corridor.
The Egyptian Minister continued that there will be a connection through a fiber optic network to create a revolution in communications and internet access within Chad.
Many urban development and agricultural community projects will be established along the sides of this road, he added.
Abdelatty said that there are great opportunities in the Chadian market, particularly in the sectors of agriculture, renewable energy, urban development, and construction.
Abdelatty has embargoed on an African tour starting from Chad, where he met with Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, the CEN-SAD Executive Secretary in Chad Ado Elhadji Abou, and other Chadian officials.
