CAIRO – 23 July 2017: Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Wali discussed with her Peruvian counterpart Peru’s successful school feeding experience and how to benefit from it, according to a released statement on Sunday.

The meeting discussed the school feeding program applied in Peru in the period from 2012 to 2016 and its positive impacts on health and the educational process.

Peru minister clarified that the school feeding program in her country succeeded in offering meals to 3.5 million children daily for 190 days children in 2016
This program has a strong educational element which isteaching children about the importance of healthy eating, personal hygiene, recycling and protecting the environment.

Ghada Wali discussed in the meeting the features and mechanisms of the decentralized school feeding program in Peru and expressed Egypt’s keenness to learn from Peru’s model.

The two ministers agreed by the end of the meeting to establish a workshop to provide technical support to Egypt's Takaful (mutual support or welfare) and Karama (dignity) program to help women maximize the benefit of the cash subsidy they get, to increase their production and making some savings
