CAIRO – 3 June 2024: The Foreign Ministers of Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates held a virtual meeting to discuss the latest developments in the mediation efforts facilitated by Egypt, Qatar, and the US. They announced their support for the ongoing ceasefire mediation efforts

The aim is to negotiate an exchange prisoner swap deal between Hamas and Israel. This deal would result in a lasting ceasefire, the release of hostages and detainees, and the facilitation of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.

The Foreign Ministers of Jordan, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia reiterated their full support for these ongoing efforts. The ministers discussed the ceasefire proposal presented by US President Joe Biden on June 2.

The Arab foreign ministers also stressed the importance of dealing seriously and positively with the US President’s proposal with the aim of agreeing on a deal that guarantees a permanent ceasefire and the adequate delivery of aid to all parts of the Gaza Strip, in a way that ends the suffering of the people of the Strip.

The ministers stressed the need to stop the Israeli aggression against Gaza and end the current humanitarian catastrophe, the return of the displaced to their areas, the complete withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, and the launch of a reconstruction process within the framework of a comprehensive plan to implement the two-state solution in accordance with the relevant Security Council resolutions and with specific timings and binding guarantees.

The Arab foreign ministers announced their support for the two-state solution, which embodies an independent, sovereign Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1976, with East Jerusalem as its capital, to live in security and peace alongside Israel, in accordance with the relevant international legitimacy resolutions. They said that the two-state solution is the way to achieve security and peace for all in the Region.
