Prisoners granted exceptional visit for Eid Al Fitr celebration

CAIRO – 6 April 2024: The Ministry of Interior has decided to grant all inmates one exceptional visit on two days – on the eve and the first day of Eid al-Fitr.

For those who haven't been given these two days, the visits will continue until Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

Notably, this exceptional visit does not count towards the inmates' scheduled visits.

This decision reflects the Ministry of Interior’s commitment to upholding human rights values, implementing a modern punitive policy, and ensuring comprehensive care for inmates.

On many national occasions throughout the year, hundreds of prisoners are pardoned. Many prisoners are granted a presidential pardon on occasion of Sinai Liberation this year.

According to the constitution, the president has the right to issue pardons for convicted prisoners after consulting with the Cabinet.
