CAIRO – 10 March 2024: The Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE) unveiled plans to turn the famous Tahrir Complex into a hotel, shopping mall and administrative building by the end of 2025 as transformation works had already begun.

Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El Said, who also serves as Chairperson of the TSFE, affirmed that the historical integrity of the building, particularly its facades, would be preserved in alignment with architectural heritage standards.

El Said pointed out that studies on traffic densities in the Tahrir area and other crucial factors had been conducted to ensure the complex's successful transformation. A committee - comprising the ministries of tourism, antiquities, and housing - has established preliminary standards in collaboration with international experts to determine the best uses for the Tahrir Complex building.

The minister highlighted TSFE's success in attracting a prestigious investment alliance for the Tahrir Complex development. This alliance, specializing in the rehabilitation and development of historical buildings, comprises American and Emirati partners.

The TSFE had revealed in March 2023 plans to transform the former buildings of the Ministry of Interior in Downtown in Cairo into also administrative, educational and hospitality facilities.
