CAIRO – 5 February 2024: Egyptian Ambassador to Athens Omar Amer stated in a press interview with ANA-MPA that the seasonal workers agreement between the two countries, whose implementation began in 2023, would create job opportunities for 10,000 Egyptians.

 

The agreement signed in 2022 provides that the Egyptian laborers would be granted a nine-month stay every year to make up for the shortage in agricultural workers. The pilot phase that took place last year consisted of 5,000 workers but later the number was raised.

 

Greece holds the 11th position among European Union countries contributing to Egypt's economy. As of the end of April 2023, Greek investments in Egypt reached $255 million, spread across 215 projects spanning various sectors including finance, industry, services, construction, tourism, agriculture, communications, and information technology.

 

Egypt's Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir stated in October that a 21-percent rise in the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Greece during the year 2022. The total trade volume between the two countries amounted to approximately €2.56 billion, marking a substantial increase from the previous year's figure of €1.69 billion.
