CAIRO – 19 December 2023: Egypt extended Tuesday condolences to China on the victims of the deadly earthquake that hit Gansu, expressing solidarity with the country in handling the impact of the disaster and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

The 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck the district late on Monday claiming at least 126 lives and injuring hundreds, as reported by Reuters. Further, over 155,000 houses, mostly made of earth and clay, either turned to rubble or are at risk of crumbling.

The Egyptian minister of foreign affairs had met his Chinese counterpart in November calling on the country to play a role in ending the war in Palestine's Gaza Strip. The meeting was within a visit by a delegation of counterparts from a number of Arab and Islamic countries.
