A round of negotiations at the ministerial level between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia kicked off in Cairo in October to discuss the GERD issue.

Cairo meeting is a third gathering for the three parties after conducting two meetings in Cairo and Addis Ababa over the past two months, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.

They tackled ways to accelerate reaching an agreement on the rules for filling and operating the Renaissance Dam.

On July 12, 2023, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Cairo, where they discussed enhancing Egyptian-Ethiopian relations, a statement by the Egyptian Presidency said.

During their meeting on the sidelines of the Sudan Neighboring States Summit, which Cairo will host on Thursday, Sisi and Ahmed discussed means of settling the Sudanese crisis. They also discussed developments of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
