CAIRO – 16 December 2023: Minister of Culture Nivine El-Kilany announced that all artistic activities and events across the country will be suspended for three days in mourning of the death of Kuwaiti Emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah.

This came pursuant to a decision announced by Egypt to observe a period of mourning after Sheikh Nawaf’s death.

The minister offered her deepest condolences to the Kuwaiti ruling family, government and people for their great loss.

Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf passed away on Saturday, aged 86, after three years in power and only a few weeks after he was admitted to hospital over an emergency health problem.

Subsequently, Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, 83, named as the new emir.

Kuwait has announced a 40-day mourning and a three-day closure of official departments over the emir’s death.

A statement by the Egyptian Presidency cited President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi as mourning the death of the Kuwaiti emir, describing him as “the great man who has been supportive of his Arab and Islamic world.”

Egypt declared three days of mourning over the passing of the emir, says the statement.
