CAIRO - 13 December 2023: The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population confirmed that the initiative to detect cancerous tumors targets citizens aged 18 years and above.

The ministry explained that the initiative aims to detect the disease in the early stages, thus reducing deaths resulting from it, and reducing the financial burden in late cases.

Dr. Nirvana Magdy, Executive Director of the initiative, said that obtaining the initiative’s services begins with the citizen going to the health unit and filling out an electronic questionnaire, which includes a number of questions about the pathological symptoms of all tumors covered by the initiative. Through the result of the questionnaire, the citizen is informed of the disease targeted to be detected.

Dr. Nirvana continued that after knowing the disease targeted to be detected in the citizen, the citizen is transferred to the hospitals operating within the initiative, to conduct the necessary x-rays and laboratory tests, and in the case of a negative examination, the citizen is informed of periodic follow-up of his/her health condition according to the type of tumor targeted to be detected. But in the case of positive tests, the patient is presented to a multidisciplinary committee to make the necessary treatment decision.

She pointed out that the initiative's work and patient referrals are carried out through an electronic system that links health units, medical convoys and hospitals to the electronic questionnaire system, to facilitate citizens' access to the initiative's services.

The Ministry of Health and Population confirms its keenness to provide citizens with information and to respond to inquiries regarding the President of the Republic’s initiative for early detection of cancerous tumors through the hotline 15335.
