Al Azhar hails ‘bravery’ of UN Secretary general Guterres calling for immediate truce in Gaza

CAIRO – 30 October 2023: Egypt’s Al Azhar hailed on Monday hailed the bravery and supportive stance of UN Secretary general Antonio Guterres who called for an immediate stop of the fighting in Gaza.

Al Azhar asserted the necessity of putting an end to the Israeli aggression and targeting children and civilians in Gaza, hailing the steadfastness and determination of the Palestinian resistance and people there.

Al Azhar, in a statement, praised the patience of Gaza's women and children whose bodies are being targeted by the fire of the of the Israeli army.

Al Azhar also urged governments of Muslim and Arab nations to dedicate potential and wealth to help Palestinians and their cause.

On Sunday, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his U.S. counterpart Joe Biden agreed in a phone call that the idea of displacing Gazans in Egypt is not acceptable.

According to presidential spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy, Biden made the phone call to discuss the overall security situation in the Middle East, the latest developments in the military escalation in Gaza Strip, and means to prevent the expansion of the conflict to involve other parties in the region.

Sisi called for an immediate humanitarian truce, delivering humanitarian, medical and relief aid to the people of Gaza.

The two presidents agreed on increasing aid sustainably and in quantities that meet the needs of the people in the strip.

Sisi told Biden Egypt rejects the policies of collective punishment and displacement, reiterating that Egypt did not allow the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza Strip into Egyptian territory in the past, and will not allow it today.
