In their meeting in Cairo, Minister Shokry welcomed Belgium's backing to the Arab resolution at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) as it manifests support to peace, ending the bloodshed, and protecting civilians.

In that context, the two ministers discussed the risks that would ensue from the expansion of the conflict, and the need to deploy regional and international efforts to inhibit that scenario.

The Belgian minister expressed understanding of the challenges Egypt is facing as a consequence of the crisis, saying she looked forward to learning about Egypt's vision on reviving the peace process between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

With regard to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Minister Shokry warned of the disastrous security repercussions of the situation, given that the Palestinian people are subjected to constant shelling, siege, and forced displacement in violation of international law.
