CAIRO – 5 August 2023: A tugboat affiliated with the Egyptian Suez Canal Authority (SCA) sank after it collided with CHINAGAS LEGEND tanker in the maritime navigation Route on Saturday, announced SCA Chief Admiral Osama Rabie in a statement.

Tugboat “Fahd” sank after the Hong Kong-flagged CHINAGAS LEGEND tanker collided with it at the 51 km point of the Suez Canal during its transit as part of the South convoy [ from the southern entrance of the canal to the north] on its journey from Singapore to the United States of America.

The collision caused holes in the body of the tugging boat and then led to its sinking, Rabie said, noting that a salvage operation is still underway.

Each vessel passing through the navigational route should be escorted by tugboats to prevent any possible accidents.
