CAIRO – 29 June 2023: The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will hold, next week, at its headquarters in Jeddah, an emergency meeting of the Executive Committee to discuss the procedures for the repercussions of the incident of burning a copy of the Holy Qur’an that took place in Sweden on the first day of Eid al Adha.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation confirmed in a brief statement that the meeting will discuss measures against these despicable acts and to express a unified position against the desecration of the Holy Quran.

Egypt’s top Sunni Islamic institute of Al Azhar, renewed its call for boycotting all Sweden products in a protest against the burning of a copy of the Quran (Muslim Holy Book) by an extremist in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, on Wednesday.

“Al-Azhar reiterates the call to boycott Swedish products and calls on ‎Islamic governments to take serious and unified stances towards ‎violations of the burning the Qur’an copies,” Al Azhar said in a statement.

Egypt's Mufti Shawqi Allam also strongly condemned the burning of a copy of the Holy Quran.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Mufti said such irresponsible acts evoke feelings of hatred and reflect the hateful manifestations of Islamophobia.

He urged the international community to combat such polemics and insults and confront any act that could fuel hatred and spread sedition.
