Egypt, Russia to sign space cooperation agreement in July 2023

CAIRO – 26 June 2023: Director of Russia's Roscosmos State Corporation Yuriy Borisov stated that a comprehensive cooperation agreement would be signed with the Egyptian Space Agency in July during the Second Summit Russia–Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum to be hosted in Saint Petersburg.

 

Borisov said he had agreed with CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency Sherif Sedky on finalizing the preparation of the agreement concerned with the potential interaction between the two agencies.

 

The Russian official added that they held discussions on the principles and benefits of developing Russian-Egyptian cooperation. That is in the fields of space education and exploration, as well as launching spacecraft and upgrading manned programme, space, and ground infrastructure, according to a press statement by the Russian Embassy in Cairo.  

 

In that context, he noted that the Egyptian space programme is considered one of the major projects of the Egyptian authorities. Hence, its outcome must be bolstering Egypt's role in space research and innovation.
