CAIRO – 1 June 2023: Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said that the latest decisions of the Arab summit in Jeddah regarding Turkey and Iran were less intense than before.

He added during televised statements, that this step didn't happen suddenly. As the Turkish-Egyptian dispute for example calmed down during the past 3 months prior to the summit that, same thing for Saudi Arabia and Iran, and with this calmness, it was reflected in the decisions adopted by the Arab world towards neighboring countries.

Aboul Gheit also criticized the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy for not addressing the Palestinian issue or condemning the Israeli actions and violations.

“I had conversations with Western diplomats, and I told them that I expected that when the Ukrainian president called on Arab leaders to talk to Russia to release the Ukrainians in Russian prisons, he would speak and demands the release of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, but he did not say that.” Aboul Gheit said.
