CAIRO – 30 May 2023: The Ministry of Justice launched an office to document the marriage of Egyptians to non-Egyptians in Sharm El Sheikh to be the first of its kind in South Sinai, and the third in a governorate other than Greater Cairo and Alexandria.

The conditions for documenting that kind of marriage is that the age of each spouse must not be below 18, the age gap must not be above 25 years, two witnesses, an interpreter during the signing in case the foreign spouse is a non-Arabic speaker, and the stay of the foreign spouse in Egypt must be temporary.

The documents that must be submitted by the foreign spouse include a statement from their embassy indicating their marital status, age, religion, profession, income, address, as well as an approval of the marriage. That is in addition to a medical certificate for each spouse from any public healthcare unit, and five recent personal photos.

To issue a translated copy of the marriage certificate, one of the spouses must submit a copy of their identification document, an original stamped copy of the marriage certificate, and paying a LE10 fee, submitting the receipt.
