CAIRO - 10 May 2023: The Ministry of Health and Population said that the human papilloma virus (HPV) is a group of viruses that are common worldwide, and there are more than 100 types of them, but not all of them are dangerous or cause cancer,

The ministry explained that there are at least 14 types of the virus that are responsible for cancer and are called very dangerous viruses.

The Ministry of Health added: Cervical cancer occurs as a result of infection with certain types of these highly dangerous viruses, especially 16,18, which may cause approximately 70% of cervical cancer and the carcinogenic lesions that cause it.

There are other types of human papillomavirus (HPV) that do not cause cancer (especially types 6 and 11) that may cause warts in the genitals and respiratory papilloma (a disease in which tumors grow inside the respiratory tracts leading from the nose and mouth to the lungs).

Although these cases rarely lead to death, they may cause a significant degree of disease.

Human papilloma virus is the most common viral infection of the genital tract, most women and men (almost 80%) of sexually active people will be infected with it at some point in their lives and some of them may have repeated infection.
