CAIRO – 4 May 2023: Egypt extended condolences to Serbia on Thursday over the “shocking” shooting in a school in the capital, Belgrade, which killed nine, including eight children and wounded others.

In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended sincere condolences to the families of the victims, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

The ministry also stressed Egypt’s solidarity with the government and people of Serbia in such painful incident.

A 14-year-old boy opened fire on Wednesday in a school in the Serbian capital, killing eight children and a school guard and injuring six more children and a teacher before he was arrested, said the police.

The motive behind the attack has not yet been announced but the suspect reportedly drew sketches of classrooms and had lists of people that he planned to kill.

However, the suspect may not face charges under the Serbian law because of his young age.

Serbia has announced three days of mourning following the attack.
