Egyptian FM, Josep Borrell confer over conflict in Sudan

CAIRO – 2 May 2023: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry received Tuesday a phone call from High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell to confer over the developments of the armed conflict in Sudan.

Shokry and Borrell presented the communications they had made to accomplish a permanent ceasefire that would stop the bloodshed among the Sudanese people. They also discussed the humanitarian status and ways of better equipping countries sharing borders with Sudan to deal with the displaced.

The EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy expressed appreciation for the efforts deployed by Egypt since the outbreak of battles in order to achieve a ceasefire. It also lauded its contributions in the evacuation of thousands of foreign nationals from Sudan, including Europeans; in addition to hosting Sudanese citizens.

At the end of the call, the two parties agreed on continuing consultation and coordination in the coming period within the framework of concerting efforts to resolve the crisis.
