Egyptian, Swedish FMs discuss enabling humanitarian missions in Sudan

CAIRO – 22 April 2023: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry received Saturday a phone call from his Swedish counterpart Tobias Billstrom to discuss the situation in Sudan and ways of maintaining the ceasefire in order to enable humanitarian missions' access to the injured.

 

The Swedish minister expressed his country's concern about the latest armed conflict, and its impact on civilians and expats. On his side, Minister Shokry noted that Egypt had been communicating with all parties, stressing the importance of accomplishing a permanent ceasefire and avoiding violations.

 

The minister also stipulated the importance that foreign parties abstain from intervening in a way that would jeopardize the pacification.

 

Minister Shokry received Thursday phone calls from his Indian and Dutch counterparts to discuss the developments in Sudan so as he presented Egyptian communications with regional and international parties to help broker a sustainable ceasefire.

 

Both ministers expressed interest in coordinating with Egypt on securing care to their citizens in Sudan, agreeing on continuing consultations with the Egyptian side in the coming period.
